An analysis of the relationship between GDP and ammonia nitrogen emissions in Shanghai from 2015 to 2023 highlights the characteristic turning point of a typical Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC). This indicates that Shanghai has passed the peak of the curve and entered a phase where economic growth continues alongside a significant reduction in major pollutant emissions. This trend confirms that as economic development advances, societal demand for environmental quality rises, while governments and businesses have increased capacity and more advanced technologies for pollution control. It also demonstrates that Shanghai, as a megacity, has successfully shifted its development model.
