Temporal Changes in PM2.5 Levels in Beijing:
A Decade-Long Review
Joanna Zhao

Beijing has experienced a remarkable environmental transformation. Once known for severe spring dust storms and haze that blocked the sun, the city has turned "Blue-Sky Days" into a reality through a decade of dedicated environmental efforts. Strategic actions—including upgrading industries, enforcing strict pollution controls, and shifting away from heavily polluting industries—have effectively separated economic growth (GDP) from air pollution, resulting in a sharp decrease in PM2.5 levels. This progress has greatly enhanced public satisfaction with air quality, showcasing the success of Beijing's green development strategy.
